Merging ideas on the board
Merging ideas on the board
Updated over a year ago

Sometimes your board may contain 1 or more ideas that are very alike, in which case it is probably unnecessary or even misleading to have multiple idea bubbles with separate sets of upvotes and comments. In this case, it's often advisable to merge these ideas into one.

However, keep in mind that merging ideas is an irreversible action and thus the original ideas cannot be recovered in their original format after they have been merged. All of the different creators of the merged ideas will still be visible under the merged idea's People tab. Also, the comments on the merged ideas will be separated with a colored bar shown on the right-hand edge of the comments and you can click on it to only view the comments from one original idea.

In this guide, we'll go through a tutorial of merging two ideas into one.

P.S. To be able to merge ideas, you’ll need to have an admin account for the desired Viima board. Please contact your Viima super user for access if you don’t already have an account.

Tutorial

Step 1

We'll start by opening a board that includes the ideas we wish to merge.

Step 2

Now that the board is open, locate the ideas that you wish to merge. If they reside in different categories or statuses, click "Show all" next to the Categories or Statuses to go to the view that shows all ideas on your board. (Alternatively, you can change the status and category of the ideas to match one another. This way, the merged idea will automatically end up in the right place regardless of which idea is merged with which).

In our example, we wish to merge the idea "Customer success stories" with "Space for customer feedback"

Step 3

Now, open one of the ideas that you wish to merge and click on the grey “pencil icon” at the bottom of the idea. This will take you to the edit options.

In our example, we have opened the idea "Customer success stories".

Step 4

From here, you must choose "Merge idea" from the three options in the upper panel.

P.S. From here you can also change the category or status of an idea.

Step 5

Now, choose the idea that you wish to merge with the one that is currently open.

In our example, we'll choose "Information bank for customer use".

Step 6

After you have found the idea you wish to merge, choose the idea that you want to keep as the new merged idea, which will be highlighted in blue. The information about the new merged idea will be identical to the one that you choose here.

After you're sure about your decision, click on the green "Merge" button in the lower right corner.

In our example, we'll choose the "Space for customer feedback".

Congratulations!

Now your ideas have been successfully merged.
