2023-07-09 – UX Refresh, Kanban & More

Viima's July 2023 release is one of our biggest ever: Kanban view, major UX refresh, and a lot more!

Updated over a week ago

We're excited to bring you one of the biggest updates for Viima ever! The highlights for this release are the new Kanban view for boards, and our major UX refresh, but there's also a lot more.

Here's a quick overview of what's new:

1. Kanban view for boards

  • In addition to list and bubble views, boards now have the option of a Kanban view.

  • This is great for cases when you want to get a quick overview of your idea funnel, systematically move ideas through the process to execution, or simply re-prioritize the ideas ad-hoc. Plus, if you're doing any kind of continuous improvement, it's a natural fit.

  • You could, for example, use the bubble view for initial brainstorming and exploration of ideas, then compare them to one another in the list view, and then monitor execution with the Kanban view, all on the same board! You can also now choose what the default view is for all users on your board.

  • For more details, please see this guide or read our article here.

2. Major UX refresh

  • We've updated the design of the organization home view, the board view, and the admin portal to be more modern, and to offer a more unified user experience.

  • All key functionality is still in familiar places, so the learning curve should be minimal.

  • In addition, we've made dozens of minor tweaks to address common usability issues, such as the navigation between home view, boards, and the admin portal.

3. Message Banner

  • You can now show a prominent message banner for all users within your organization to improve communication. The screenshot above show an example of this.

  • Common use cases would be promoting new boards (e.g. for limited time idea challenges), as well as highlighting changes to your processes.

  • You can freely configure the content, links, and even color of the message.

  • For more details, please see this guide.

4. Idea IDs

  • Even though ideas have always had unique IDs in Viima, we heard time and again that customers want to use these to refer to ideas. We've now made this information easily available in many places across the UI, including the list views on the board and the admin portal (see screenshot below).

  • You can also search with IDs and easily copy the ID of an idea by clicking on it from within the idea. For more information, please see this guide.

5. New Help Center & In-App Support Experience

  • We've migrated our Knowledge Base to a new platform (which you are currently viewing) and renamed it as Help Center.

  • The added benefit is that all of our help articles are now also easily available and searchable within Viima's app for administrators simply click on the floating blue icon at the bottom right corner of your screen.

  • Please note that currently some of the articles are not yet up-to-date with some of our recent changes, but we're working hard to bring these up-to-date as soon as possible.

6. Other minor updates

  • You can now choose the default view of all users on your board. This way, all new users will be taken to the view of your choosing: Bubble, List, or Kanban. To change this, go to Basic Settings of your board.

  • We no longer store gender information for users as it isn't needed and can be considered sensitive under certain circumstances.

  • In addition to the above, we've made a number of bug fixes and other improvements, for example related to usability and security.
